Location: Tamil Nadu state, especially Chennai district.

Event:  Although Cyclone Michaung has dissipated, it brought heavy rainfall and flooding to the northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, and it is not yet safe to visit the U.S. Consulate.  Consequently, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai will be closed again on Thursday, December 7, and Friday, December 8.

  • Avoid travel to the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai.
  • Seek secure shelter and stay indoors until roads are cleared.
  • Monitor the local news for updates.
