Weather Alert for U.S. Citizens: Mumbai

Location: Mumbai, India 

Event: Heavy rains have caused severe flooding throughout Mumbai.  Many major roads are flooded and impassable.  Rain is expected to continue until July 5, 2019.  Indian authorities have advised people to avoid leaving their homes.  The Maharashtra State government has declared a precautionary public holiday for Mumbai, Mumbai Suburban, and Thane.  Local emergency services remain functional, but are limited due to the flooding affecting roads and railways.  

The U.S. Consulate General in Mumbai has cancelled all visa appointments and American Citizen Services appointments for July 3, 2019.  For those with appointments on July 5, 2019, check our website at for the most recent updates before coming to the Consulate.  Affected individuals will receive updates on how to rebook their appointments.

 U.S. citizens living and traveling in India are urged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program and update their contact information.

  • Avoid travel in affected areas until flooding has receded
  • Monitor weather updates from the local media
  • Take caution in planning travel by road or rail
  • Check on the status of any flights or trains before leaving home
