Cyclone Warning for Odisha and West Bengal

Location: Odisha and West Bengal, India
Event: Cyclonic Storm Amphan is expected to make landfall along the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, India, on May 20, 2020. Heavy rainfall is expected, as well as gale force winds with gusts up to 200 kilometers per hour and hazardous sea conditions. A storm surge of 3-5 meters is expected to flood low-lying areas of West Bengal at the time of landfall. Potential threats include damaged structures and falling objects; electricity, communication systems, and roadways may be disrupted.

- Make contingency plans to leave the affected coastal areas, as directed.
- Seek secure shelter.
- Be prepared to shelter in place until conditions improve.
