The U.S. Consulate hosts Mandy Jenkins, American Digital Media Trainer & Social News Consultant

The U.S. Consulate Kolkata hosted American social news consultant and digital media trainer Mandy Jenkins in Kolkata from September 2-4.

Mandy Jenkins started her first India tour in Kolkata where she conducted a number of social media workshops at the American Center.  Her first engagement was with high school, college and university students and teachers and examined how social media has changed the media industry and traditional newsroom jobs.  During this session Ms Jenkins connected virtually, via Google Hangout, with students of Tezpur University (Assam) and Mizoram University.

Speaking to a number of Kolkata’s working journalists representing English and vernacular print media, Mandy Jenkins shared her knowledge of the most efficient social media tools for advanced news gathering and effective crowd-sourcing for content.  Social media being a valuable resource for social activism and awareness building was emphasized by Ms. Jenkins’ in her workshop with Kolkata’s NGOs.

Mandy Jenkins concluded her programs at an event hosted by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the American Center.  This session, focused on demonstrating how new media can help businesses promote their CSR(corporate social responsibility) programs.

Ms Jenkins will travel next to Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
