U.S. Consul General Opens New American Business Corner in Pune

On October 20, 2014, U.S. Consul General Tom Vajda inaugurated a new American Business Corner in Pune.  The new Business Corner, which is located in the Maharatta Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Agriculture Trade Tower, will act as a clearinghouse to connect Pune-based companies with U.S. companies interested in doing business together.  As a platform where businesses can access information and meet with each other, the new Business Corner will promote greater trade and investment between the United States and India.  The October 20 inauguration was organized in cooperation with the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Pune Chapter.

Speaking at the inauguration, Consul General Vajda said, “Today’s opening demonstrates the United States’ strong commitment to promoting greater bilateral trade and investment.  We hope putting an American Business Corner in Pune signals to the U.S. and Indian business communities that we are confident our economic relationship with western India will continue to grow in the coming years.”

Two-way trade between the United States and India has already surpassed $100 billion per year, almost doubling the annual level only three years ago.  The new American Business Corner in Pune will play an important role in encouraging even greater trade and investment ties, particularly in Maharashtra.
