Security Message for U.S. Citizens for India’s Republic Day on January 26, 2017

As we approach India’s Republic Day on January 26, 2017, the U.S. Embassy reminds U.S. citizens of the ongoing terrorism threat in India.  In the past, terrorists in India have targeted markets, religious sites, hotels, restaurants, and public transportation, including trains and buses.  U.S. citizens should expect heightened security and an increased police presence throughout India in advance of the nation’s Republic Day celebrations.  We encourage all U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to increase their security awareness as detailed in the State Department’s Worldwide Caution of September 9, 2016.
