Pre-Departure Orientation For U.S. Bound Students At The American Center – Kolkata

EducationUSA Kolkata, a part of the worldwide program administered by the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) hosted its annual Pre-Departure Orientation program for U.S. bound undergraduate and post graduate students in the American Center, Lincoln Room on Friday, June 26, 2015.

The day-long program offered the students an opportunity to interact with U.S. Consul General Helen LaFave, and other American officers on what to expect for their upcoming 2015 Fall academic semester.  Speaking to the students the Consul General LaFave said, “Education is at the very foundation of the enhanced U.S.-India strategic-plus partnership.  Indian students are a strong, positive presence on U.S. campuses and surpassed the 100,000 mark last year.  Let’s continue these connections and build more dynamic higher education communities and future global citizens.”

Sessions on academic and social-cultural life in the United States, presentations on travel and health insurance regulations were part of the day’s program.  The orientation provided students glimpses of life in the United States — both on and off campus.  They also had the opportunity to network with fellow students who will be travelling to the United States.

USIEF Regional Officer Shevanti Narayan coordinated the orientation program in Kolkata and she noted, “EducationUSA Kolkata organizes this annual event to prepare students to begin their journey in a new educational, social and cultural environment.”
