North India Office Director Michael Rosenthal

Michael Rosenthal became Director of the North India Office in June 2020.  The Office is responsible for U.S. engagement with Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.  He previously served in the Political Section of U.S. Embassy New Delhi.  Prior to that, he served on the India Desk and the NATO Desk at the State Department in Washington, DC.  His other postings abroad include Warsaw, Poland and Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Before joining the State Department, Mr. Rosenthal was a legislative assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives and a Fulbright scholar in St. Petersburg, Russia.  He earned his B.A. in political science and Russian studies from Amherst College in Massachusetts, and his M.A. in international economics and strategic studies from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC.  He speaks Hindi, Russian, and Polish.

Mr. Rosenthal is originally from Los Angeles, California.  He is married and has one daughter.
