The National Basketball Association recently held the first-ever exhibition games in India earlier this year in Mumbai. Sports have always been an important bridge between the United States and India, and collegiate sports are an increasingly important field of interest for Indian students going to the United States. Hear first-hand from student-athlete Saurabh Nishar who has studied and played for the basketball team at U.S. college Holy Names University. He is the head coach at Dhirubhai Ambani International School and recently finished his training in basketball analytics from sports management worldwide. He went to Oakland, California for on a basketball scholarship and played JV basketball in the NAIA Division 3 at Holy Names University. Saurabh has a master’s in commerce from H.R. College, Mumbai and currently runs a start-up called Schwag that makes marketing material and branding collateral for companies like Uber, Facebook, Netflix, Tik Tok, and NBA in India. Following this talk, an EducationUSA adviser will guide students on sports scholarships and funding opportunities to study in the U.S.

You have shortlisted universities that you plan on studying at in the U.S.  Now comes the step of applying to those universities. An important component of the application packet is the statement of purpose for postgraduate students or the essays for undergraduate students and MBA applicants. The essays and statement of purpose are tools to market yourself to the universities, and show them why you are a good fit. Attend the free session that will provide you with the essentials of writing a winning application essay and statement of purpose.

If you have any queries, please contact Behrooz Avari at AvariBK@state.gov.

We look forward to seeing you there!
