The Press Office is headed by the official spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi. The Office’s primary jobs are to provide authoritative information on U.S. government policies to Indian media and to track–and report to Washington–media opinion on a range of issues important to the United States.
The Press Office also:
schedules media interviews with Embassy officials;
- arranges press conferences for visiting U.S. government dignitaries and official commercial missions;
- works with local polling agencies to measure public opinion on issues of bilateral concern; and
- prepares and distributes speeches, policy, statements, press releases and special publications on issues important to India and Indo-U.S. relations. (Materials are generally prepared in English, and some are translated into Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, Telgu, and/or Malayalam.)
Journalists desiring information about U.S. policy may contact the Press Counselor/Press Attache at the U.S. Embassy.
