The Information Office at the U.S. Consulate Mumbai handles the press engagements for the Consulate in Western India. As the primary contact for public inquiries about U.S. policy in India, it represents U.S. viewpoints to local media by way of press releases, press conferences, speaker programs and journalist training programs. In addition, the Office is responsible for the online properties of the Consulate and using social media to further U.S. policy in India. The Section also reports on the Indian media and public reactions, keeping U.S. policymakers abreast of Indian public opinion. On the occasion of visits by high-level U.S. officials or delegations, the Information Office organizes news conferences and interviews for Western India media. The Information Office in Mumbai is also equipped to handle queries and provide information in two primary regional languages of the Consular district: Marathi and Gujarati.
