From The American Center New Delhi
Dear valued American Center patrons,
As you know, the American Center will be reopening to the public on Monday, July 3. Although some areas of the Center will remain closed until the end of July, as we complete our renovation project, the library will be opened as promised.
You will see that in the period we have been closed, we made numerous modifications to the layout of the Center. We have made these changes to accommodate what our patrons have told us they most desire of their American Center experience.
The most apparent sign of our changes is that the library has been moved to the lowest floor of the building to enable us to expand our program space and also expand Nexus, the American Center startup hub. The library will continue to offer the same high-quality reference and circulation services, but the move to a smaller area has meant several important modifications in how we offer those services. For instance, some of the materials will not be available in the public areas, but will need to be requested from a member of our library services team. Furthermore, there will be a smaller area for seating, which means that fewer patrons will be able to stay for extended periods at the Center.
Our remodeling project is continuing throughout the summer, and as part of that we will be adding more tables and chairs in public areas. However, for much of July we will have a significant scarcity of public seating, which means we will be able to accommodate fewer of the patrons who want to spend time at library. Depending on the demand for space, we may return to the system whereby each patron is requested to vacate his or her space after 4 hours to allow other people to spend time enjoying the American Center materials. We will communicate on this development as we determine how best to accommodate demand for space at the library.
Thank you very much for your patience during the remodeling project, and we thank you in advance for your patience as we determine how to offer you the best American Center experience possible in our new layout.
