Deputy Assistant to the President Lisa Curtis and Acting Assistant Secretary of State Alice Wells Travel to India
Deputy Assistant to the President and National Security Council Senior Director for South and Central Asia Lisa Curtis traveled to New Delhi July 31 to August 1. She was joined by Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs and Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Alice Wells.
In Delhi they delivered remarks at the inaugural India-U.S. Forum and met with Foreign Secretary Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Doval. They also met with other senior government officials as well as thought leaders, and business executives to discuss U.S.-India relations and regional issues.
In their meetings, Deputy Assistant to the President Curtis and Ambassador Wells reiterated President Trump and Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to expand and deepen the strategic partnership between our countries and advance common objectives such as combating terrorist threats, promoting security and stability across the Indo-Pacific region, increasing free and fair trade, and strengthening energy linkages. Both looked forward to maintaining the positive momentum of the bilateral relationship following Prime Minister Modi’s successful visit to Washington in June.
