Chennaites Learn Ikebana at the American Library

On May 26, the American Library in Chennai celebrated Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month with a live demonstration of Ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of flower arrangement, led by the Consulate Chennai’s own Yukari Mire and visiting professors Mieko Tokiwa and Tae Sakakibara of the Ikenobo School of Ikebana in Japan. Consul General Phillip Min opened the program with remarks about the diversity of the United States and a brief history of Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. Following a lecture by the Ikebana experts, the audience took part in an interactive lesson, creating their own floral arrangements.
