Mumbai – All-female string group, Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards will perform as one of the opening acts at the Kala Ghoda Festival in Mumbai on Sunday, February 2, 18:45 PM.
Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards are brought to Mumbai by American Music Abroad, a people-to-people cultural exchange program designed to share America’s rich musical contributions and diverse culture with the global music scene. The all-female string group is inspired by traditional American fiddle music. Their original compositions encompass Old-Time, Bluegrass, Country, and Celtic music.
Speaking about the group’s performance in Mumbai, U.S. Consulate Mumbai Public Affairs Officer Philip Roskamp says, “American Music Abroad is an opportunity to bring traditional American music forms to international audiences. This program also provides Indians and Americans an opportunity to learn more about each other’s cultures and develop friendships that will bring our countries closer together. The U.S. Consulate General Mumbai looks forward to showcasing Laura Cortese and the Dance Cards at the city’s foremost cultural event, the Kala Ghoda Festival.”
The band consists of Laura Cortese (Fiddle/Voice), Mariel Vandersteel (Fiddle/Voice), Valerie Thompson (Cello/Voice), all brought together by the love of traditional American music. All members have trained at the Berklee College of Music and toured across the U.S. and Europe.
